MSP Testing Schedule
This year the state administration of the Measurement of Student Progress (MSP) is available on line.  Our school has decided to test grades 3-5/Math, Science (only 5th), Reading) online.  The test questions are the same as paper/pencil version, but shown in different order on each computer screen for test security.  Students will have the same amount of time to take the test as before and there are tools built into the presentation for students to use.  The test window is extended for the online version to allow all students time in the computer lab.  The writing test will continue to be paper/pencil due to the volume of handwritten response.   Your child’s teacher will be sending home notification of specific dates for online tests that we are involved in this year.  We want our students to be well prepared and comfortable with the online format as this moves forward.

Please ensure your child is rested, has a good breakfast and comes to school ready to focus on the MSP.  If you would like to view a demonstration of this test and also take a sample test with test questions in the different subjects and grades please go to OSPI’s link: http://www.k12.wa.us/Assessment/StateTesting/OnlineTesting.aspx  The box on the right has the downloads for you to view.

All students will have the opportunity to see both the DEMO and the Online Training Tools (Sample test) at school.  Viewing it at home, with parents, is encouraged as well. Thank you for your support in helping to make this a successful experience for our students. All testing begins at 9:45.

On the library page, rollover with your mouse "Classrooms" in the navigation bar and visit the three kindergarten classrooms. Check out the discoveries that our kindergartners made about Peru, India and Japan. These extraordinary writers and artists have created amazing pages filled with cool country facts. Feel free to leave a comment with your WOWS and WONDERS! Everyone needs a little encouragement; it's the water that makes the seeds grow.

Students in all grades will be introduced to the 2012 WA Children's Choice Books. In May they will choose their top three favorite books, soon after the poll has closed we will announce QAE's favorite three picture books. Clicking here will take you to the book nominees, all thumbnails are linked to our QAE Amazon Associate page, giving us 8% if you choice to purchase books for your home library. These are the best of the best in story and illustrations! I highly encourage having these titles in your home. Unfortunately, these books will not be available for check out until voting ends, giving all classrooms a chance to enjoy them.

Oh how we love good books!

Hi families,

Please come by the Treehouse and check the Lost and Found if your child is missing anything.  There are lots of coats and sweatshirts, a few pants, waterbottles and lunchboxes.  If there are still items by Friday everything will be donated to Wellsprings Family Services.  We'd like to clear everything out by the start of spring break.  Click here for photos.

Thanks,

Mindy Katz

Poems have little rules - maybe there capital letters, punctuation could be used, they don't always make sense - throw out the grammar rules! Poems can be quick bursts of humor or sadness. Poems can teach and/or confuse us. Often times poems rhyme but it's not required. I do love to read aloud when poems rhyme!  There are days that I will have a poem in my pocket and read to anyone who will listen. Read poems in your home. Talk about what the poet might be trying to say. Click on the QAE Poetry Slam Wall and support your child in posting an original or published poem. We'll be looking at these poems together.

Ask your child where the poetry books are located in the library. Hopefully I've done a good job teaching and you will hear "811" or maybe "somewhere in non-fiction", if not give clue, or take them to the library and visit poetry collection. I've created a new Poetry section in the QAE Resources on the Reading page. Here are links where we can hear and read poems. One site allows us to post poems and respond to others.
How about a poem a night before bed? Check out the online Magnetic Poetry - way cool!

Have a great weekend!
