After four weeks in bright sun, warm pools and oceans, and "never say no" grandparents, we (I) were ready to come home. It was time for many reasons - visiting our new space was top on the list! On the way home from the airport we went directly to the school. I could see kids playing on the new purple and orange playground. Of course, Madeline wanted to join but I didn't see an opening in the fence. Slightly concerned, I shouted over, some of the kids trying not to see me, and asked how they got in, "through the hole in the fence on the other side", one bold girl answered. Madeline was disappointed that she would not be climbing through the hole to join. The playground looks wonderful and I am glad the students from St. Anne (of course, I asked) were testing it out and having fun.

The new sign is up, looking historic and grand in all it's stone glory! My head did turn when Madeline said, "It's not Queen Anne School, it's Queen Anne Elementary. I am going to that school!" She's getting smarter by the minute. The sign matches the old John Hay School sign, so I am assuming the district decided to continue the tradition.

Yesterday, I visited the site and wandered around getting a feel for the space. I was alone doing my back and forth game I usually do when moving into any new place. After my third time entering the library, I departed knowing this was going to be a very special place for everyone. The windows all open and have wide ledges for plantage. The light will be amazing, but will have sleek blinds incase it's too amazing. No shelves have been installed so I couldn't vision the placement of the books. I am trusting that the designers made enough room for our 8000 new books. Whahooty!

Next week, my little family departs again for one last blast of sunshine. I'll miss the shelves being delivered, but I'll be back in time for the collection to be placed on August 22.

A new librarian in a new library, amazing teachers, unbelievable community, daughter going to QAE in 2013 (maybe 2012), five minutes drive (15 minute walk) to school - does it get any better? Thinking not so much.
