It's a Wrap, Close School and Open Summer

Those Darn Lost Books!

Eventually, lost books find their way back to the library. Over the years, I've become less and less concerned about missing books.  Thank you for all the parents and students who took time and gathered lost and overdue books, it made my week a bit easier.  I've turned off automatic weekly notifications for overdue book, so you won't be hearing from me over the summer. BUT it's likely those messages will begin again in September by your new librarian. Simply hearing from you allowed me to either remove overdue books from your child's record or find the books already on the shelves.

Summer Reading for Children and Adults

Picture
The Internet is filled with suggested summer reading lists and incentives. Staying close to home, I am going to suggest participating in Seattle Public Library's summer reading program - Summer of Learning.  - lists, activity cards, goals and prizes. There's lots there to plans and organizes a good 10 weeks of reading fun.

This summer and beyond...... Madeline and I will read at the same time, at least an hour a day. We're starting the Lord of the Rings as a shared read. For our success, because remembering details is an issue, we have a LOR journal to record all the characters and places introduced. Not firm, but light...  I am thinking 30 minutes shared reading and 30 - 45 minutes independent.
Consider playing Reading Bingo with your child. It's way more fun when everyone plays the same game. Reading Bingo gives readers an chance to stretch reading repertoires and opportunities. Young readers will be more interested in reading when reading is observed everywhere. Click below on both the Adult and Children's Reading Bingo board.

Finishing ST MATH

The goal is for students to complete their grade level in ST MATH. I've heard from our ST MATH rep that the program will be accessible to all students until August 23. With your child, set a goal to reach at least 75% of grade level skills.

Summer Keyboarding

Your child is welcome to continue practicing effective keyboarding skills over the summer. The Typing Agent program should be launched through the library webpage. <seattleschools.typingagent.com> Most students know their Username and password. Email me if your child wants to practice keyboarding and they can't access the program - I am here to support.

QAE Keyboarding Club

Sadly, time ran out and our last keyboarding lunch and certificate presentation didn't happen.  Starting last March, students set a keyboarding goal (eg.. 3days wk - 20 min), at the end of each month we had lunch together, discussed our goals (made adjustments), enjoyed popsicles and played Kahoot. Please email me if your child participated - I have a certificate to email you.

Always in partnership with you!
Mr. Jeffrey

We have a few library books. Any way for us to return over the summer? Or should we hang on to them until school starts up again?
