Personalize Your Child's Digital Portfolio

11/28/2014

I am seeing personalized Weebly banners, new designs, postings on personal blogs, stories and positive comments. If you haven't heard, your child has an electronic portfolio that showcases their writing, art, thinking and interests. For those who want to see student portfolios can click on Student Showcase from the library site which will take you to all the classrooms. Clicking on any teacher will take you to all the students in that class. Everyday, I watch students are visiting their classmates, learning about making positives comments . We discuss meaningful comments and the difference between praise and encouragement. Most days of the week students are invited to have lunch with me in the library to share on the presentation computer their new design and/or banner, or Weebly discoveries with others. New learning is contagious!

Many students have a standard background on their Weebly (digital portfolio). This is the default banner when sites were set up. Students in grades 2-5 are introduced on how to change the banner, add photos and text, making it theirs. Parents in the earlier grades are asked to do this at home with their child.

Below you will see a few examples of a customized banner. These banners have been linked. Click on them.

I created a short video, showing you how simple it is to customize a site in Weebly. I encourage you to do this with your child so they can have ownership in their work.

Thank you for building excitement over your child's work and visiting their digital portfolio. Everyday, I watch students looking at their work, likely enjoying wonderful comments that have been made by family members and friends. Powerful!

Last week, Madeline and I sent an email to every person she thought would enjoy following her learning journey. In the message we shared her web address (madelinerqae2.weebly.com) and the password (ask your child or email me). Each story and art project has wonderful comments that inspire and excite her to create and share more.

Need support? Interested in an evening parent Weebly class? Please let me know.

In partnership with you,

Jeffrey
